Based on the severity of hair loss, male pattern baldness can be divided into stages 1 to 7. A smaller number indicates a milder condition, while a larger number means a higher amount of completely atrophied hair follicles.
Explaining The 7 Stages
The hairline appears intact, but a slight recession can be noticed at the frontotemporal corners (above the temples).
The hairline at the frontotemporal corners has a more noticeable recession, forming small triangular recessions.
The hairline continues to recede, forming very distinct, deep triangular recessions. The hairline takes on an M or U shape, and there may be slight hair loss at the vertex (crown).
The frontal hairline recession is more severe, and there is noticeable hair loss at the crown. However, the two hair loss areas (front and crown) are separated and not connected.
In addition to frontal hair loss, the crown has extensively thinned out, and the frontal and crown hair loss areas have expanded to connect with each other.
Hair loss at the crown worsens, and the overall hair volume is very sparse, but it is not completely bald yet.
There is almost no hair left on the front and crown, and the hairline on the sides and back of the head has receded downward.
